Celts not ruthless enough
MOHAMED ELYOUNOUSSI reckons Celtic paid a hefty price for not being ruthless against Rangers and were left disappointed to only end up with a derby draw.
The Norwegian international bagged his first Old Firm goal in his two seasons on loan from Southampton to open the scoring for the home side at Parkhead.
But Elyounoussi’s diving header was not enough to win the game with Celtic missing a host of other opportunities and Rangers grabbing a set-piece leveller through Alfredo Morelos.
The home side’s scorer was frustrated and didn’t feel the scoreline reflected the match.
Elyounoussi said: “Not really, I don’t feel like that. I felt like we had a good game and created a lot of chances.
“We were not ruthless enough in front of goal. In the end we are disappointed with one point.
“The combination play up front between all of us, especially me and Odsonne, was good. He set me up for the goal.
“We went 1-0 up and felt good and could have killed it earlier, so we’re disappointed with 1-1.
“That said, there is a lot of positivity from this game that we can take onwards with the lads.
“We take the positive things from here and keep going for the next one.”
Elyounoussi, meanwhile, insisted frontline colleague Edouard felt he was denied a clear penalty after going down in the box after a sliding challenge by Ibrox defender Borna Barisic.
Referee Willie Collum yellow-carded the French striker for simulation, to the star’s dismay.
But his team-mate Elyounoussi told Celtic TV: “I haven’t seen the situation again with Odsonne but from my point of view it looks like a penalty. He said it was clear.”
