Joe so keen to come on and have his say

-

JOE CARDLE says being left on the bench for the restart fired him up to make an impact.

The Partick Thistle winger was introduced with 63 minutes gone and got the opener before Mitch Megginson hit a late Cove leveller.

Cardle, 34, said: “Obviously I wanted to start but it was nice to get some minutes.

“I’ll always give my all, any time I’m on the pitch.

“People might think I’m past it at my age but whenever or wherever I’m chosen to play, I’ll give it everything.

“My job is to create and to score goals. And as long as I keep doing that, I’ll be happy in myself.

“It was frustrating we didn’t manage to get the three points. We had plenty of chances to put the game to bed before Cove equalised.

“It felt like a defeat as we knew we were the better team with the better chances. Every game is a must win now.”

Cardle is hoping to cement a place in the Thistle team at wide right over the remaining two months of the campaign.

He added: “I’ve played on the left wing for the majority of my career and it was the gaffer here, Ian McCall, who opted to play me on the right.

“It’s worked out well and hopefully I’ll get more shouts to play there as I seem to be enjoying it.”

Cove manager Paul Hartley was pleased with a point and said: “We’ve got good character and spirit in the squad. We scored a really good goal.

“I’m happy with a point and the players were excellent, especially given we hadn’t played for 10-and-a-half weeks.

“We dealt with them well for the most part. Cardle is a handful. It’s hard to get close to him but we should have done better at the goal he scored.”

League leaders Falkirk went four points clear as Mark Durnan and Callumn Morrison netted to dump Montrose 2-0.

Dumbarton keeper Sam Ramsbottom’s clearance off team-mate Ryan McGeever gifted Forfar a 1-0 victory, while Jordon Brown got the only goal as Peterhead edged out Airdrie, who had Kyle Turner sent off.

East Fife beat Clyde 3-1 thanks to goals from Nathan Austin, Danny Denholm and Ryan Wallace as Bully Wee striker David Goodwillie got the reply.
