Practice makes perfect for Nesbitt
MORTON ....... 2 QoS ................. 1
AIDAN NESBITT says it was no fluke after scoring direct from a corner to inspire a major win in Morton’s quest for survival.
Nesbitt’s swerving effort in 19 minutes caught out Queen of the South keeper Rohan Ferguson.
New Cappielow boss Gus MacPherson reckons it was a lucky mishit but Nesbitt insists he has been working on it for weeks.
The attacker said: “I meant it. I was practising on Friday. All of you will laugh but it’s true.
“It was a great feeling. I do it all the time in training, so it was going to happen one of these days.
“If you get one like that you’re happy to take it.
“There’s a good chance their keeper will be raging. I just saw him too far off his line and capitalised.”
Lucky or not, Nesbitt was key to Ton’s first home win in three months as they moved eight points clear of bottom side Alloa.
Morton suffered the blow of losing a goal just before half-time when Ayo Obileye beat Aidan McAdams from 30 yards.
But Gary Oliver won it for them a minute past the hour, heading home Kalvin Orsi’s cross.
Nesbitt added: “Our home form hasn’t been good enough. But we were good from the first whistle to the last. It was a vital win.
“We need to build on this for the next game and if we play like that, we have nothing to worry about.
“We’ve got Dunfermline in the Scottish Cup first on Tuesday night and we’d love to do well in that too.”
It’s two defeats in a row for Queens and they’re at Hearts next. Centre-back Gregor Buchanan said: “We ran out of ideas early and it played into Morton’s hands. Hopefully it’s just a blip. We had been on a good run.“
