Kyle: Point is we can fight for our spot

-

KYLE BENEDICTUS reckons Raith may have to turn ugly in their bid for a play-off spot.

The Rovers skipper ended his side’s threegame goal drought to help grind out a point at Ayr.

Now he says they may have to go for substance over style in the run-in.

Benedictus said: “A lot of people have said we’re nice to watch and probably think the other side lets us down. But we showed here we could do it.

“It’s probably the worst pitch I’ve played on all season. We couldn’t get the ball down and play our normal game.

“But we showed we could battle and we’ll need that between now and the end of the season.

“That’s four in a row we haven’t won but the performances are there – we just need to get three points on the board.”

This point edged Rovers into second spot on goal difference, although they

Frankie Musonda blew a glorious chance to head the Fifers in front from a Lewis Vaughan corner.

However, they made their pressure count when Benedictus nodded home another centre from Dan Armstrong.

David Hopkin threw on Michael Moffat with half an hour left and his Honest Men looked more of a threat as a result.

Ayr levelled the game when a Cammy Smith cross dropped to Aaron Muirhead, who smashed home from close range.

And goal hero Muirhead, playing in a new role in the centre of the park, said: “I’ve been getting it tight from the lads as I’ve had a few shots flying wide.

“They were telling me to stop shooting, so maybe this will shut them up.”
