GLASS IS OUT FOR SILVER IN GRANITE CITY

-

hopes to be in the dugout for the first game of the split against St Johnstone, knows expectations are high. But he aims to deliver and take things on a stage from Derek McInnes’ time at Pittodrie under chief Dave Cormack.

Glass, 44, said: “From my side, I’m expecting the backing every manager at Aberdeen gets from a chairman.

“From Mr Donald when I was there as a young player, then Ian Donald and Stewart Milne.

“Good chairmen back their manager and that’s what I’ll be looking for.

“In terms of what he [Cormack] wants from me, he is looking for the club to be successful, which means being as high up the league as possible, filling the stadium and when people are allowed back in, they want to come and watch your team.

“Bringing trophies, the next stage in Europe.

“It’s something that takes time, it’s not instant.

“But I will change things as quickly as I can with the backing of not just the chairman but the supporters and the rest of the staff.

“I’ve no doubt that the people who come along will help to build a legacy at the club.”

Glass hopes to announce his backroom staff later this week.

Record Sport revealed yesterday morning that Celtic skipper Scott Brown had agreed to become his No.2 and he could yet be joined by England striker coach Allan Russell.

Glass believes his new-look coaching team will deliver.

He said: “With the staff who are there and what I’ll add, we can really push things hopefully to another level that hasn’t been around the club for a while.

“It has been successful here and there but we’re looking for a sustained period of success and to get to that next level in Europe.

“Successful Aberdeen managers put trophies in the cabinet and hopefully I’m there long enough that I can be one of those managers who manages to do just that.”

Glass is likely to travel from America in the next week but will then have to quarantine for 10 days on his return to Scotland as the Dons chase third spot.

Glass, speaking on RedTV, said: “I am hoping to be there for the first game of the split.

“But obviously there are quarantine rules and health things going on at the moment and I have to be very respectful of them.

“As soon as I can, I will be there and I will be catching up with the staff and players in the meantime.

“Paul (Sheerin) will take care of things in his way at the moment.

“He has been doing that and has earned the right so far. And he can take things on board until we get in and we can work together.”
