CORONATION Street star Jane Danson has admitted her home life is going to be filled with soapy bubble – and she’s thrilled. The 42-year-old, who plays Leanne Battersby, is married to fellow actor Robert Beck who has joined Hollyoaks as Fergus Collins. And Jane admitted there will be some friendly rivalry.
She said: “There’s always been a little bit of banter. It’s so funny. But he’s very much been in the soap world for a while.
“We go through each other’s lines. It’s great. We met working on soaps so there’s a massive understanding of the job.”
The pair met at the first ever Soap Awards back in 1999. She had been in Corrie for a couple of years by then and he’d already been in Brookside as Peter Harrison in the early 90s and had just joined Emmerdale as Gavin Ferris.
Jane admitted she had fancied the blue-eyed hunk since she was a teenager.
She said: “I’m not the world’s most confident person but I’d had a crush on Rob since I was 15, so I thought, I have to speak to him, it’s fate.” The pair hit it off and married in 2005 and are the proud parents of boys Harry, 14, and Sam, 12.
They even become co-stars when Londoner Robert joined Corrie in 2008 as Jimmy Dockerson although the role was over the following year.
She added: “Rob’s absolutely my best friend in the world.” No wonder then that the actress would like her character to find the same kind of happiness.
Jane admitted she’d really like to see Leanne and Nick Tilsey get back together.
She revealed she loves working with actor Ben Price on the STV show and is keen to rekindle their romance. However, Leanne is currently embroiled in the dark and dodgy world of drugs after Harvey (Will Mellor) recruited her son Simon Barlow (Alex Bain) to work for him.
She is also grieving the loss of her biological son Oliver last November, while Nick has been building a relationship with his son Sam after finding out from ex, Natasha Blakeman, that he was his
