BROONIE IS A BORNWINNER SAYSMCGINN

- BY

NIALL McGINN wants to be part of the Aberdeen revolution with Stephen Glass and “born winner” Scott Brown.

The Northern Ireland star firmly believes the new management team can bring trophies to Pittodrie again.

McGinn is out of contract in the summer but was encouraged to receive a well-wishing message last week from incoming Dons manager Glass ahead of the international triple-header.

The 33-year-old winger scored a stunning goal after coming on as a sub in Sunday’s 2-1 friendly defeat by the USA and is hoping it impressed Glass and his former Celtic team-mate Brown who will join as a player-coach.

McGinn said: “I had the opportunity to work with Broonie at Celtic and he’s a born winner.

“He’s a different type of character on the pitch to off the pitch and I’m excited for what’s ahead at Aberdeen.

“Stephen sent me a message before the Italy game to wish me all the best and we’ll get a conversation when I go back.

“I’m looking forward to working under both of them. It’s an exciting period at Aberdeen. I’m out of contract in May and I believe there’s still plenty of life in me yet.

“I’ll be looking to get more opportunities club-wise between now and the end of the

STEVEN BEACOM season and see where that takes me.

“It’s been a frustrating season for me. I didn’t really play a lot. At the start I played, then picked up a little injury and different guys came in and did well, which left me out the team.

“I’ve always been the type to keep working hard and in the last four or five weeks I’ve played, which has been good.

“It’s down to me to take opportunities and it’s moments like the goal against the USA that will give food for thought for the new manager coming in and hopefully show I’m worthy of a new contract.”

Asked if he feels the Glass-Brown combination can lead the Dons to winning a trophy for the first time since the 2014 League Cup triumph under Derek McInnes, McGinn said: “Yes, definitely.

“That’s what we want and hopefully they can come in and hit the ground running.

“We want to be competing at the top end of the table, constantly getting into Europe and getting to cup finals as well.

“Hopefully we can do that and hopefully I can be a part of it.”
