Season-ticket holders forced to pass on cup

- BY DAVID MCCARTHY

CELTIC season-ticket holders won’t be given a free pass to watch their club’s Scottish Cup tie with Falkirk on Saturday.

The Premiership side face League One Bairns in the third round with a 7.30pm kick-off.

But fans will need a TV subscription to watch it as – unlike the other televised cup game Celtic have played in this campaign – it won’t be included in their season ticket.

Premier Sports opted not to sell the club rights to show the game on their Pass to Paradise platform.

In November they allowed Celtic seasonticket holders to watch their Betfred Cup match with Ross County for free with a weekend pass.

NACHO NOVO admits he was thrilled to see Alfredo Morelos banish his goal hoodoo against Celtic this month.

The Colombian had to wait until his 15th Old Firm to get on the scoresheet against Rangers’ fiercest rivals and the former Ibrox hitman believes it will be a weight off his shoulders.

Novo said: “I was delighted Morelos scored the goal against Celtic. He’s been brilliant but he needed that one.”

And the Spaniard is on friendly terms with the fans’ favourite, having helped him settle into life in Scotland when he arrived three years ago. He said: “We still speak and he’s a great kid. He can be angry at times on the pitch but if you take that anger from him, he’ll never be the same. He needs the fire inside to be burning.

“I’d have him all day long, even with the stupid things like the red cards. He is still a young player, remember, and he is learning. This season he has been more focused. When someone kicks him, he just gets up and gets on with it.”

Novo reckons Morelos has been one of the club’s top performers as they’ve dominated on the domestic scene and launched a Europa League run that took them to the last 16 – but believes the frontman had plenty of company.

He said: “James Tavernier is injured now but what a season he’s had.

“To have so many goals and assists is just incredible. His performances have been fantastic.

“You can go through the whole team – Allan McGregor, Connor Goldson, Borna Barisic, Steven Davis.

“Davis has such a good engine, he could still play for another five years he is so professional. They just come out and deliver week in, week out.”
