Booze binge rapist walked free on sex attack charge

Alleged teen victim speaks out as beast caged

AN EX-SOLDIER jailed for rape previously walked free from court after being accused of a horrifying sex attack on a teenager. Christopher Robertson, 39, was was locked up for five years last week after attacking a woman as she slept at his home in Airdrie in 2017. Now it has emerged that he went on trial accused of raping a girl, 16, more than a decade earlier but was cleared by a jury.

The alleged victim in that case spoke out.

The now 32-year-old, who does not want to be identified, said: “I always said he would do this again and I believe the justice system has allowed it to happen.

“I’m heartbroken to know another girl has gone through what I went through.” Robertson was jailed at the High Court in Glasgow last week after being convicted of rape.

He molested the woman after she fell asleep and raped her after she awoke. During the trial, Robertson – a construction worker who previously completed two tours of Iraq – claimed he had consumed nearly 30 alcoholic drinks before the pair had consensual sex. Now the Record has confirmed he went on trial at the same court in 2008, accused of raping a teen.

The alleged victim told how she was taken to an address in Robertson’s car and carried into a room before being assaulted.

In court, Robertson again claimed she had consented to sex and was acquitted.

The alleged victim was later offered victim support compensation. She said: “I didn’t understand why there was enough evidence to give me a cheque but there wasn’t enough to put him away.

“Seeing what happened to another woman has brought so much up again and I’m just so angry. I just wish I could give her a cuddle.”

Robertson has been placed on the sex offenders’ register for an indefinite period.
