Clyde Cup wins don’t shock me

-

ST JOHNSTONE star Craig Bryson doesn’t need to be warned about Clyde pulling off a Scottish Cup shock.

Saints host the League One outfit this weekend in the fourth round.

It sees Bryson go up against the club where it all started for him and he helped to stun Gordon Strachan’s Celtic 2-1 at Broadwood in 2006.

He said: “I’ve not played against Clyde since I left.

“I’ll never forget where I came from and what they did for me in my career.

“Hopefully there are still a few familiar faces next weekend. It will be a case of trying to win a game for St Johnstone then speaking to everybody after.

“Hopefully it doesn’t happen next week with us. It’s still one of the best days of my career.

“Nobody gave us a chance going into that game. We played brilliantly and even had goals disallowed. We thoroughly deserved our win.

“It was a great day for Clyde, a great day for the players and for everybody connected with the club.

“Hopefully there isn’t another day like that at our expense.”

Saints go into the cup tie on the back of a narrow defeat in their opening top-six clash to Aberdeen.

The veteran added: “It’s not nice losing any game but I didn’t think there was anything in that one, so it was a tough defeat to take.

“We played quite well and there were a few chances in the first half when we got in good positions that we didn’t take. When you play against the better teams in the league you get punished for that, which is what happened.

“I’m not really sure there was anything else we could have done differently. It was a harsh result.”
