Bairns are Keena to stay on top

-

FALKIRK held their nerve against Clyde to maintain a three-point lead at the top.

Ben Hall and Aidan Keena fired the Bairns into a two-goal lead but they were made to sweat after Josh Jack pulled one back with six minutes to go.

Conor Sammon was in the thick of the early action. The Falkirk striker’s fifth minute lob sailed over then, three minutes later, he got free on the right but Clyde keeper David Mitchell denied him.

Mitchell was beaten a minute later, though, when Hall banged home the rebound after Mark Durnan’s header was blocked.

The impressive Mitchell then made a great stop from a Callumn Morrison effort in the 27th minute and twice thwarted Sammon just before the break.

Keena doubled the lead in the 67th minute when he fired in Morrison’s pass and could have sealed the win eight minutes from time but his shot smashed off the bar.

Two minutes later, Jack smashed home from the edge of the box before fellow sub Ally Love struck the bar in the last minute.

Cove Rangers kept the pressure on the Bairns with a win against Dumbarton – but only just.

Rory McAllister grabbed the only goal of the game in the 54th minute when his strike was judged to have crossed the line despite protests from the Sons.

Partick Thistle climbed into third with a 3-0 away victory over Peterhead.

Joe Cardle got the opener just before halftime with Scott Tiffoney and Brian Graham putting the game to bed within eight minutes of the restart.

Airdrie grabbed a 94th minute own-goal equaliser in a 2-2 draw at Montrose.

Cammy Ballantyne and Sean Crighton’s own goal had the home side two up at the break but Russell McLean and keeper Aaron Lennox both scored own goals to hand the Diamonds a point.

East Fife moved up to fifth after winning 2-1 at bottom of the table Forfar. Ryan Wallace put the Fifers ahead but Jordan Allan levelled early into the second half.

Kevin Smith hit the Fifers’ winner before Loons’ Bernard Coll saw red for a second booking.
