Stewart: New man will be on the attack

- BY ANTHONY EVANS

STEPHEN GLASS will make Aberdeen an exciting, attacking force.

That is the verdict of ex-Partick Thistle striker Thomas Stewart, who played under the new Dons boss when he was assistant at Shamrock Rovers before being handed the job on a temporary basis following Stephen Kenny’s departure.

Although Glass was only interim boss for eight games, Stewart – a league champion with Linfield and Shamrock – reckons it was clear how he wanted to play on the front foot.

Stewart said: “Stephen is a very hands-on coach when it comes to training and has a lot of attackminded attributes, which I think stem from his own career where he often played on the left wing.

“He was able to implement his own ideas and I felt we were let off the leash a bit more in the final third.

“His way of playing gave us that injection of bite and freedom on the pitch we probably needed at the time.

“Unfortunately the club were looking for a more experienced manager, which is why Brian Laws was appointed.”

Glass earned his badges in the United States and Stewart, who had a prolific spell with Sacramento Republic and Ottawa Fury, reckons that will serve him well in the Premiership.

The Northern Irish frontman added: “Coaches get time to learn their trade and develop their own styles and systems. The scientific approach is also so important in the States.

“If Stephen can take what he’s learned with him to Aberdeen, it could be really effective.”
