Neil: Racism row won’t halt Toddy’s stellar streak
NEIL McCANN has branded racist abuse of the sort allegedly aimed at Nikolay Todorov as “disgusting” but is confident it won’t knock the Inverness striker off his stride.
The Bulgarian is on a brilliant streak, netting six times, five of them in the last four games.
Stand-in boss McCann had no desire to comment on allegations relating to remarks made by Raith’s Iain Davidson. But he said: “Racism is disgusting in life and sport. I’m appalled by it. That’s as far as I’ll go.
“All I can see is what I’m seeing on the pitch. When Toddy takes the field he clicks into gear and I expect that from all my players.
“Toddy’s scored some special goals but it’s not just his goals, his all-round and link-up play has been excellent.”
Davidson, whose SFA hearing was yesterday adjourned, was charged with excessive misconduct after the alleged abuse directed at Todorov. No new date has been set.
The defender also copped two reds in Rovers’ defeat last month and has served a five-game ban.
Todorov has since been hit with a notice of complaint alleging excessive misconduct.
McCann remains focused on the challenge at St Mirren tonight and added: “The players are really up for it. They understand and respect their opponents but we’re going there to win it.”
Full-back David Carson signed a new three-year deal yesterday.
offered the job, the next step was to get Scott Brown done.
“What Mr Lawwell came out and said showed how important Scott is to us and to Celtic.
“The fact that Mr Lawwell said they tried desperately to keep Scott Brown says everything about Scott Brown.
“I know for a fact they did on the last day he was up here signing his pre-contract.
“They were desperate to keep him and there were people trying to convince him not to come.
“I believe I had provided everything that I could. He’s not here for the money.
“He’s here for the opportunity, for trust and the environment he’s going to be working in.”
Glass is in no doubt Brown and Russell, who will continue to work as England striking coach, will help bring more big names to the club.
He added: “Allan will attract players and the players we have and the players we bring in will get better under him.
“If you want to play beside Scott then you’ve got an opportunity at Aberdeen, so I do believe he will attract players.”
