JACKI: CHANCE TO PUT BOOT IN
TERRY BUTCHER famously took the hinges off the dressing-room door at Parkhead after an Old Firm Scottish Cup last-16 clash in which Celtic ripped up the form guide.
Jacki Dziekanowski managed to avoid the flying timber that day and he’s convinced the Hoops can make a similar explosive impact at Ibrox.
Butcher put the boot in after Tommy Coyne slid in to score in the 1-0 win in 1990 and was caught on camera as Hoops boss Billy McNeill was going through his post-match interview.
The Celtic legend had to duck to dodge the debris before hitting the Gers captain with a serious stare.
A steely McNeill said: “You can see the frustration Rangers feel. They can say what they want, we were the better side on the day.”
Celtic overcame the odds to stun a side on the road to nine in a row.
The Light Blues may be favourites again on Sunday but Dziekanowski insists it wouldn’t be a shock to see the tables turned once more. The former striker said: “People might have expected Rangers to win but we did not think that way.
“It did not matter about the league position – the supporters expected us to beat them. In a derby it was almost like the league position didn’t matter.
“Rangers had a strong side at that time and they spent a lot of money.
“It was more difficult at Celtic but we always believed in ourselves. We didn’t have any fear.
“It is a different situation now. Rangers have won the league and it will be up to Celtic to respond next season. I expect some big signings in the summer.”
