LET’S GO INTO ROVER DRIVE

Lewis eyes a place in the Premiership

- IAN ORR

LEWIS VAUGHAN is convinced Raith Rovers are destined for the Premiership – and insists they have to do all they can to reach the top-flight this term.

The Stark’s Park side sit second in the Championship table and know a victory over Alloa this afternoon will definitely seal a top-four finish.

Just 12 months on from lifting the League One title, earning a shot at back-to-back promotions is an indication of the promise the club have shown under John McGlynn.

It is an upward trajectory that convinced Vaughan to pen a new three-year contract this week.

But the 25-year-old has urged the Kirkcaldy outfit not to get too carried away as they bid to move one step closer to the top tier of Scottish football for the first time since 1997.

He said: “The aim is to get into the Premiership. We’ve shown

Nchance in the coming years so we have to make the most of this chance when we’ve got it.

“There’s a lot of confidence around the club at the moment. Some of the football we’ve played and some of the goals we’ve scored have been different class.

“Hopefully we can produce more of the same against Alloa. It will not be an easy game.

“Alloa are fighting to stay in the league and will be wanting the three points as much as us.

“But a win secures us top-four so it’s a massive game for the club in our first season back in the Championship. To achieve that would speak volumes for the club and how far we’ve come. “Coming up from League One, the boys have done incredibly to be in second place and we’ve been up there all season, it’s not as if it’s a one-off. We deserve to be there. “Hopefully we can get over this last wee hurdle, secure top-four and push on. Then you never know what might happen in the play-offs. Everyone wants to play in the top league and to get back-to-back promotions would be something special. in our “But there’s a lot of football to first season in the be played before that happens, so Championship that we’ve got the we need to keep our feet on the capabilitieEsEtoDgToEaAnMd SdHoEitE.
