LOOKING GLASS

Considine eyeing up a strong finish as Dons look to put marker down under new management team

- SCOTT BURNS

ANDREW CONSIDINE insists there shouldn’t be a Glass ceiling to Aberdeen’s ambitions.

New manager Stephen has come in and the Scotland star knows every Dons player is now on trial, regardless of whether they have a contract beyond the summer.

Considine reckons Glass, along with assistant coach Allan Russell, has given Pittodrie a lift. Now they’re fired up to turn a season of under-achievement into one of success – by looking to grab third spot and lift the Scottish Cup.

To do that Aberdeen will need to win all four remaining league games and four more cup ties, starting with tonight’s home last-16 clash with Livingston.

Considine said: “We could turn this into a brilliant season, get ourselves to Hampden and get our hands on some silverware.

“When you looked at it at the start of the split, potentially we might not have had a chance of getting third. But if we look after ourselves and get the results we need, then we can see what happens.

“We pretty much need to win every game. It will be tough but there is no reason why we can’t do it and hope other results go our way.

“We’ll be in it with a fair chance of finishing third if we can do that. All the players have a hunger to do well.

“This team has a lot to prove because this season hasn’t turned out to be the best so far. But we could have eight good games to have a good run in the Cup and get third.”

The defender believes former Atlanta United 2 boss Glass has wiped the slate clean and has some new ideas to revive the Reds.

Considine said: “It has been really good and positive. We had a meeting on Wednesday and he has set out a clear plan he wants to implement.

“He wants more energy from all of us. The manager and Allan Russell have said when we are pressing, we need to do it with more intensity and commitment.

“We went out on the training park and we worked on it. We have been working at it all week.”

Considine is one of the few experienced Aberdeen stars who remains under contract for next season. But he knows unless he produces, that will count for nothing.

He added: “Yes, I one hundred per cent agree that we’re all essentially on trial.

“It’s the sixth manager I’ve played under and it feels like that every time a new gaffer comes in.

“I know he’s watched all the games this season so he’ll have a rough idea already. But when he’s here, you’re face to face, you’re on the training pitch, you want to impress and do well.

“A lot of players are out of contract. We’ve had a few summers when there’s been a big turnover but potentially this could be the biggest one.”

Glass, looking forward to his Pittodrie return and his bow as manager, knows he is going straight into the Lions’ den against Livingston.

And he’d love to replicate the near-perfect start rival boss Davie Martindale made when he stepped into the Livi hotseat earlier this season.

Glass said: “We will approach the game how we think we will win it while respecting Livingston.

“They came up here and won 2-0, we’ve not done too great against them.

“Their manager did really well, he started 12 games unbeaten. Not just unbeaten, most of them were wins – so it was a winning run.

“For a new manager in this league with the number of games we have left this season, if I can do as well as David did at the start of his career then I’ll be doing all right. There is a lot of respect there.

“But my job is to win the game for Aberdeen. I’m focusing on what we will do while heavily respecting what they are capable of.”
