I’m ready for Boogie night in Vegas
Josh plans to belt out anthem then party at Hampden
JOSH TAYLOR is determined to Boogie down the Las Vegas strip then bring back his belts to bounce at Hampden this summer.
The Edinburgh ace is out to unify the light welterweight division in his super fight with Jose Ramirez in the US next month and is planning to boom out the Scotland Euros anthem after victory.
Taylor has held a poll for his ring walk song on May 22 – and Yes Sir I Can Boogie is out in front.
The WBA and IBF champ would lap it up but he’s also hoping to hoover up all four belts and parade them at the national stadium before one of the Euros fixtures.
Taylor – who has launched a brand partnership with German Doner Kebab – said: “I was just putting the feelers out about the music but it would be good.
“If I win the fight, I’d definitely play that as part of the victory celebrations. That would be brilliant.
“And I would love nothing more than to come out at Hampden for one of the games in the Euros.
“To stand in the middle of the pitch with all four belts, it would be amazing.
“I’d then sing Yes Sir I Can Boogie on the pitch and I’m sure everyone would join in!”
Taylor is set to fly out to the States on Friday ahead of the biggest fight in
Scottish boxing since the days of his hero Ken Buchanan.
The Prestonpans puncher has been holed up in London doing the hard yards.
And he said: “I’m flying – I’m way ahead of schedule. My weight is bang on target and I’m hitting PBs in the gym.
“I’ve done all my homework on Ramirez. He doesn’t really do anything in his fights but I’ll tell you after the fight on May 22 if there’s anything that surprises me.”
Taylor is all set for a mega unification fight that has caught the attention of fans on both sides of the Atlantic. But he reckons he might need to become a social media sensation to get the attention of some of the white-collar fighters who are banking huge sums for bouts in the States.
YouTube star Jake Logan knocked out former mixed martial arts fighter Ben Askren in front of 1.5million pay-per-view fans. But Taylor said: “It does make a little bit of a mockery of the sport in some ways. Look, it adds to the show business side of things and clearly gives people entertainment.
“The Logan v Askren fight had about 1.5million pay-per-views – that’s [Manny] Pacquiao numbers.
“I wouldn’t be complaining if I was making their money – maybe I need to get myself a YouTube channel!”
