Grim spell on sickbed gets Liam worked up

-

LIAM GRIMSHAW is determined to help get Motherwell back on their feet after finally putting his eight-month stint on the sickbed behind him.

The combative Steelmen ace was laid low by a bout of glandular fever that kept him out since January.

He made his return to action after being handed a surprise start against Dundee on Saturday.

But it was a 1000-strong band of Well supporters who were left feeling green around the gills at full time as their side crashed out of the Premier Sports Cup following a 1-0 defeat.

The furious Fir Park faithful made their feelings clear as they booed boss Graham Alexander on his way down the tunnel.

But Grimshaw, 26, has vowed to do all he can to restore the Steelmen to a healthier standing after making his return.

He said: “It wasn’t the result any of us wanted but it was good to be back.

“It was tough being out so long, but I’ve got good support – my girlfriend, my family and my club. I’m all right now, which is the main thing and hopefully I can crack on.

“When I went to hospital they said I had glandular fever and it can sometimes take a while to get over, but I wasn’t expecting it to be this long. It just floored me, the fatigue and stuff.

“It took quite a while but I’m back now which is the main thing. I couldn’t exercise or anything - I was completely laid up, really.

“But it was great to be back playing. It’s always a privilege to play, especially for Motherwell. Result-wise it wasn’t great but hopefully I can kick on now.”

Grimshaw knows fans are not happy but is determined to win them over.

He said: “The league is our the bread and butter really and we’ll just need to crack on.”
