- BY SCOTT BURNS

TAM COURTS predicts incoming Ilmari Niskanen will excite fans and bring a genuine creativity to Dundee United.

A deal has been agreed with Germans Ingolstadt to sign the Finland left winger and Courts expects a work permit to be issued in a matter of days.

The Tannadice gaffer said: “The work permit is probably the only thing that needs to get done but everything else is close to being in place.

“We’ve some assurances the work permit shouldn’t take too long. I think he’ll miss out for the weekend.

“The good thing for the group, the fans and even us as a coaching staff is it’s nice to see our efforts are close to being rewarded.

“He’s an international quality player, a guy who is ambitious to get to the top.

“He’s got pedigree, he’s good with both feet, has raw pace and also he’s someone I’d consider to be a crossing specialist.

“He’s almost like an oldfashioned wide player. He’s perfectly suited for the Scottish game and for how we want to play as a club.”

Courts has already sold Lawrence Shankland in this window and brought in Marc McNulty. Interest remains in Jamie Robson, Jeando Fuchs and Benjamin Siegrist, with the United boss insisting they have replacements lined up.

He added: “It’s quite a fluid situation. For any first-team player who has attracted interest, we have ready-made replacements almost teed up.

“I’d be hopeful we can secure a couple of players in the next few days.”

The Terrors have also taken Mathew Anim Cudjoe, 17, on trial.

The Ghanian frontman, who was reportedly on trial with Bayern Munich, will initially train with United’s Under-18s after his quarantine is over.

The club will be able to host full capacities at Tannadice from the Hearts clash a week tomorrow.
