SPURS SLIP ON NUNO RETURN

-

TOTTENHAM crashed to a shock 1-0 defeat to Pacos Ferreira last night as Nuno Espirito Santo endured an unhappy return to his homeland.

The Portuguese men will take a slender advantage to London for the second leg of the Europa League play-off qualifier thanks to Lucas Silva’s strike on the stroke of half-time.

He ran in behind Cristian Romero too easily to latch on to Nuno Santos’ through ball and slot into the bottom corner right before the break.

But for Spurs’ new gaffer Nuno it was a disheartening blow as the Premier League men now face a testing 90 minutes in front of their own fans.

He said: “It impacts us a lot. The feelgood factor disappears.”

Nuno gave fans a boost with the claim that Harry Kane, who missed another game for Spurs, will feature in the return.

He said: “Kane trained today with the players that stayed in England. He trained well and he’ll train tomorrow, and when we return he’ll be part of the group.”

Meanwhile, former boss

Jose Mourinho began his reign at Roma with a 2-1 win at Trabzonspor.

Lorenzo Pellegrini gave the Italians the lead in the 55th minute when he fired home from Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s cross.

Andreas Cornelius then came off the bench to head an equaliser for the Turks.

But Uzbekistan striker Eldor Shomurodov poked home a late winner on his Roma debut.

But Shamrock Rovers have it all to do after going down 4-2 to Flora Tallinn in their Europa Conference League tie.

Having gone 2-0 down to goals from Sergei Zenjov and Martin Millerin the first half, Graham Burke pulled one back before the break.

Rauno Sappinen restored the two-goal advantage but Celtic target Liam Scales grabbed another for the Irish.

Their glimmer of hope didn’t last long as Miller’s second clinched victory.

Shamrock boss Stephen Bradley said: “We’re well capable of winning the tie. It was individual mistakes and it’s rare for this team to give up goals like that.”
