It’s all Good even if boss is in his bed

- BY ANDY NEWPORT

LEE SHARP has revealed Jim Goodwin will still be calling the shots for St Mirren today at Celtic Park despite the Irishman being confined to his Covid sickbed.

The Buddies boss is selfisolating after contracting the virus earlier this week.

Assistants Sharp and Jamie Langfield will be in the dug-out for today’s Parkhead clash but Goodwin will be making the decisions if his internet stream holds out.

Sharp said: “Jim’s OK. I’ve spoken to him non-stop over the past couple of days. You could say he’s here in spirit!

“He wasn’t feeling great on Tuesday night having been fine during the day.

“He had his PCR test and he’s got a bit of a cough. He’s more frustrated than anything.

“The players will want to get a result for him but we’d have wanted to do that regardless. Jim will be in contact with me during the game, I think he’ll be on the phone for 90 minutes, bending somebody’s ears.

“He’ll maybe be able to see some things we don’t see as the game is going on so it will be helpful to have him there for a bit of direction at times if we’re needing it.

“I just hope his feed holds out! He’ll find some way of watching it, one way or another.

“Will he be making the substitutions? To be honest, that’s something we’ll discuss beforehand in terms of how the game’s going. If it’s going a certain way, he’ll make suggestions.

“Ultimately, the decisions will lie with him but if I see something and discuss it with Jamie and we agree that we need to do such and such we’ll relay it to the manager.

“Obviously, we’ll listen to his directions. He’ll tell us which way he wants to go.”

Sharp is relieved that Goodwin’s positive result has not sparked a large outbreak.

He said: “The manager spends a lot of time in his office so everybody else is all good.

“Celtic are in a particularly rich vein of form. Ideally the manager would be here but we just have to get on with it.”
