I’VE ALREADY HUNG WITH THE BIG BOYS

- BY SCOTT BURNS

ROSS COUNTY new boy Joseph Hungbo has already mixed it with Manchester United so won’t be rattled by facing Rangers this weekend.

The winger has come in on a season-long loan from Watford and is in line to make his Staggies debut against Steven Gerrard’s champions.

The 21-year-old already has first-team experience with the Hornets and that included a cup visit to Old Trafford to take on Harry Maguire and Co in the FA Cup last season.

Hungbo said: “It was good. I felt like I learned a lot about myself and who I am. It was good while it lasted and now I have to focus on myself.

“I was up against Alex Telles, Harry Maguire, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Victor Lindeloff. It was nice to play at such a historic stadium and to do what I needed to do. Unfortunately, we didn’t get the result but we still got a lot out of it.”

The Londoner is excited about taking on the Light Blues but has warned reputations count for nothing.

Hungbo said: “I am grateful to be given the opportunity in those games, it’s definitely helped my development.

“The next three games are big and it’s a good chance. It’s 11 v 11 and it doesn’t matter who you are playing against. It is man v man and may the best man win, that is how you have to look at it.

“You just have to work hard and everybody is happy when they leave the stadium.”

Hungbo insisted the pull of playing under Malky Mackay was a big one, as he knows all about his new boss from his own reputation at Watford and in England.

He said: “Everybody knows about him and that he has a top resume. He’s a top manager who has worked with so many top players who have gone on to do amazing things.

“When I spoke to him I thought you don’t need to say any more because I am coming up here. I feel like the plan he has and the philosophy suits me.”

Hungbo also had experience at non-league Aldershot and that has opened his eyes.

He said: “I definitely feel like Aldershot was a road block in my career

“I thought I’d go there and do what I needed to do but sometimes loans don’t work out the way you want. Harry Kane went to five loans, some didn’t work out, and look at him now. Everything has a purpose.”
