James Bond’s third mission features the iconic image of Shirley Eaton lying on a bed covered in gold paint. This classic adventure won an Oscar for its special effects. Bond (Sean Connery) keeps a close eye on bullion-obsessed entreprene­ur Auric Goldfinger and pint-sized henchman Oddjob. Pilot Pussy Galore (Honor Blackman) must decide where her loyalties lie – with Auric or 007. (1964) *****

THUNDER ROAD FILM4, 10.50PM)

Premiere. Jim Cummings directs, writes and stars in a quirky comedy drama. Cop Jim Arnaud has a breakdown when his mother dies. Jim throws himself into his work, which results in a brawl with one suspect. Then Jim’s wife Rosalind files for divorce, demanding sole custody of their daughter. Overwhelme­d by loss and feelings of injustice, Jim begins to lose sight of the what matters. (2018) ***

THE SHALLOWS E4, 9PM

Nancy Adams (Blake Lively) drops out of medical school following the death of her mother and heads to the secret beach in Mexico where her pregnant mum surfed. Unfortunat­ely, Nancy strays close to the floating carcass of a humpback whale, which has been attacked by a shark. Alert to the danger, she hurriedly paddles back to shore but the shark attacks and sinks its jaws into her leg. (2016) ****

PERSONAL SHOPPER BBC2, 11.15PM

Maureen Cartwright (Kristen Stewart) is a personal assistant to celebrity Kyra (Nora von Waldstatte­n). As she caters to various whims, Maureen waits for a sign from her recently deceased twin brother Lewis, who vowed to make contact with her from the other side. This is a tantalisin­g character study in which the super-rich and the supernatur­al collide head-on. (2016) *****

SILENCE BBC4, 10.05PM

In 1640 Macao, Father Valignano (Ciaran Hinds) gets a letter which suggests Father Ferreira (Liam Neeson) has publicly denounced God and surrendere­d his faith in Japan. Young priests Sebastiao Rodrigues and Francisco Garupe aim to disprove the rumours. Martin Scorsese’s passion project Silence is a sprawling sermon on faith and the endurance of the human spirit.
