STEVEN GERRARD reckons Everton are having a laugh with their £5million bid for Nathan Patterson – but Rangers fans aren’t seeing the funny side.

Ibrox bosses have booted out the Toffees’ bid for the highly-rated Scotland right-back and the Gers faithful calling the Hotline insist the Goodison outfit will have to sweeten the deal considerab­ly.

Frank McFerran, Carrickfer­gus, said: “Surely that’s nonsense, Patterson going to Everton for a paltry sum of £5million? Even to think of selling a player of his calibre for that sum is criminal. If Rangers start selling young players like Patterson for peanuts they’ll lose a lot of support.”

Allan Connolly, East Kilbride, said: “Patterson has only played 17 games for Rangers but Gerrard is right when he says he has the potential to be one of Scotland’s best defenders. Rangers should be holding out for at least double what Everton have offered.”

But expat Harry Fitzpatric­k, Ontario, Canada, was happy to poke fun at the Ibrox boss as he said: “Gerrard asks what joke book the £5m offer for Patterson came from? Maybe the same joke book that said £30m for Morelos.”

Gers responded to their manager’s wake-up call as they put four goals past Ross County on Sunday – but two defensive lapses took the shine off the display.

Gordon Hendry, Ochiltree, said: “As a Rangers supporter I fear the worst this week due to our recent woeful efforts to defend.

“You would have to imagine Alashkert away and Celtic at home will pose a lot more problems for our backline than Dundee United or Ross County. Steven Gerrard needs to get things sorted ASAP.”
