RANGERS COVID BLOW

Two positive tests at Ibrox on eve of Euro clash with Alashkert

- BY KEITH JACKSON AND MICHAEL GANNON

RANGERS have been rocked by a Covid blow as they prepare for the biggest two games of the season so far.

Record Sport understands the Ibrox club have recorded at least two positive tests over the past 48 hours as Steven Gerrard’s men gear up for a Europa League play-off second leg against Alashkert tomorrow and the first Old Firm showdown

of the season on Sunday. And there are fears of further positive results as the squad undergo another round of tests before flying out to Armenia.

Health experts will also investigate social distancing protocol and travel manifests, likely to include the club’s long trip north to face Ross County in Dingwall on Sunday.

It’s unclear at this stage how many players could be affected but the news will throw a huge spanner in the works for Gerrard.

A Rangers statement read: “During our testing schedule we have received positive tests. Those identified as positive are now in self-isolation along with close contacts.

“We have followed best practice in our procedures and protocols. From the outset of the pandemic, Rangers has worked closely with the Scottish Government and Scottish football to ensure the health of our staff is protected at all times. We will continue to do so.”

Rangers are bracing themselves for a new approach from Leeds for Ryan Kent. The winger has been touted for a move to Elland Road during the last three windows but no deal has materialised.

Club Brugge’s Noa Lang was set to move to Leeds but that move has hit the rocks and the club could now return for Kent.
