Isis-K won’t stop at this
UK FORCES had intelligence that an attack was imminent and it most likely came from Isis Khorasan.
What a tragedy that this evil group has targeted innocent civilians, desperate to flee for a safer life.
The specific, reliable intelligence that suggested a threat exists will have come from a robust intelligence network developed through two decades in the country.
Intelligence also potentially also came through the Taliban’s networks.
There are indications that Isis-K’s former leader in Afghanistan, Mawlawi Ziya ul-Haq – who was arrested last year – has been executed by the Taliban in prison.
This, as well as its ideological motivations to attack the “infidels” of the West, will motivate the group to attack the airport and disrupt the final stages of the evacuation.
After one successful suicide attack, Isis-K will be intent on conducting more.
It may also seek to fire mortars into the airport which could damage the runway and seriously impede the end of the evacuation.
The Taliban’s security at the airport and the surrounding area, from where mortars could be launched, is vital to prevent further attacks.
As the evacuation draws to an end and our troops withdraw, the Taliban will need to bolster its lines and remain extra vigilant.
Like all, I hope that our heroes who have, yet again, put their lives on the line for us, get home safely.
People in Kabul should take this continued threat seriously and stay away from the airport.
