GANGLAND GUN VICTIM DIES

Crime clan target blasted in broad daylight by shotgun assassin

POLICE are hunting a gangland killer after the death of a crime clan target who was gunned down in the street.

John McGregor died in hospital after he was blasted at point-blank range.

Vicious infighting among the Daniel crime family has been blamed for the fatal attack.

A 14-YEAR-OLD boy was involved in the violent gangland incident which resulted in a dad of five being shot to death in the street.

The youngster was in the passenger seat of a Transit van which rammed a car shortly before John McGregor was blasted at point-blank range with a shotgun, sources claim.

Police confirmed yesterday that McGregor died from his injuries and a their investigation is now a murder inquiry.

The schoolboy’s dad was driving the van and aimed it at the Mercedes in a bid to hurt the man who was sitting inside with a woman.

Police found the van abandoned a short time later.

Both men are linked to the Daniel crime clan, which has been split by infighting.

The 42-year-old van driver was a close friend of dead gangster Kevin “Gerbil” Carroll, a key Daniel henchman shot and killed in 2010.

The driver was also part of the notorious hood’s Alien Abduction Gang, who kidnapped and robbed rival drug dealers.

His 28-year-old target, who managed to escape, is also linked to the Daniel family. He is facing a serious charge at the High Court in Glasgow and can’t be named for legal reasons.

Less than an hour later, McGregor, 44, was shot in the street at close range by a man who was filmed jogging back to a white getaway vehicle.

The shooting in Westray Street, Milton, Glasgow, followed a violent confrontation between two groups. Police recovered a burnt-out white Vauxhall Corsa van which was set on fire on Etive Crescent, Cumbernauld, around 9.50pm on Thursday.

It emerged yesterday that a former close associate of crime kingpin Jamie Daniel – who died from cancer in 2016 – was being blamed for the shooting.

The suspect is believed to be in his early 60s.

An insider said: “Police will be rounding up a lot of people.

“Everyone knows who was driving the van and his son was with him. The boy only turned 14 a few months ago, it’s shocking.

“The guy who people are saying pulled the trigger is an old pal of Jamie Daniel. They were friends for years. He knows he’ll be locked up for the rest of this life if convicted.

“He’s around 60 and there would be little chance of him ever being released if he’s guilty.”

A specialist team of medics were forced to carry out an emergency roadside procedure to save McGregor’s life on Thursday at about 8pm but he died in hospital on Saturday.

After launching a murder probe, Detective Superintendent Raymond Brown, of Police Scotland’s Major Investigations Team, said: “I want to appeal directly to the community and wider public who might have information that could help.

“There were people in the street at the time of the attack, including young children, and I would ask people to think about this if they have so far been reluctant to come forward. We need your help to solve this.

“I would ask anyone with information about the incident on Westray Street or the Corsa van that was found later that night, to contact us.

“I would appeal to any motorist in either of these areas who may have dashcam footage to contact us.

“Any information, no matter how small, could be crucial. “

The Daniels are one of the most notorious crime clans in Scotland. They have been feuding with the rival Lyons family for control of organised crime in Glasgow for more than 20 years.
