Star Kerry grapples with fears on celeb SAS-style ordeal
KERRY Katona froze in fear as she tried to cross a ravine over poles during a terrifying exercise for SAS: Who Dares Wins.
The ex-pop star is hoping to change people’s perceptions of her by tackling tough tasks set by chief instructor Ant Middleton and his team.
But in last night’s Channel 4 opener, the mother-of-five, who has battled bankruptcy and overcome addiction, dubbed her effort “pathetic” and wept about not completing the task.
Sitting with the instructors, the former Atomic Kitten singer, 40, cried as she reflected on “being stuck in the past”.
She told them how she has struggled to get over her mum’s suicide attempt, being given drugs at 14 and her ex-husband George Kay’s death in 2019.
Ex-weather presenter Ulrika Jonsson, 54, who was warned to “stop whimpering”, said she took part to regain confidence after hitting the menopause.
Ex-Olympic rower James Cracknell, 49, also found the SAS-style exercises an ordeal.
He said: “I asked myself, ‘How real can it feel?’ The answer was very – it was all-encompassing from start to finish.”
But not everyone taking part had grand-scale concerns.
Love Island’s Wes Nelson, 23, worried his looks would rub up the instructors the wrong way.
He said: “I have quite a cheeky face and sometimes it gets me into trouble.” Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins continues next Sunday at 9pm on
Channel 4.
