It’s bonnie Banks as Rose wilt

-

LINLITHGOW ROSE’S new management team led by former favourite Gordon Herd couldn’t inspire the East of Scotland side as they crashed out of the Scottish Cup.

Herd was in the dugout for the first time but Rose went out 2-1 at home to Banks o’ Dee, who went ahead in the 31st minute with a Jack Henderson goal.

Rose levelled eight minutes later with Thomas Halloran’s goal but an 81st-minute penalty from Mark Gilmour gave the Highland side a narrow win.

Dalkeith Thistle made their debut in the competition but they will have to do it all again next week after a 1-1 draw with Burntisland Shipyard.

Dunbar United made a winning bow with a 3-1 success over Broxburn Athletic. Andy Jones hit the opener after two minutes with Jamie Devlin getting a brace. Liam Ireland got Athletic’s goal.

Blackburn United booked their place in the first round with a 2-1 win over Easthouses Lily MWFC.

Jeanfield Swifts beat Whitehill Welfare 4-1 while Golspie Sutherland earned a 2-0 victory at Hawick Royal Albert.

South side Threave Rovers were beaten 2-0 by East’s Preston Athletic with Johnny Grotlin grabbing both goals.
