Davidson’s upbeat at no defeat

-

ST JOHNSTONE boss Callum Davidson was remaining upbeat despite being held to a goalless draw by St Mirren.

The Perth side finished the stronger of the two teams and Glenn Middleton was unlucky not to bag a late winner with a free-kick that hit the bar.

Saints have yet to win in the league this season and haven’t won at all in 90 minutes across all competitions.

But Davidson wasn’t too downbeat.

He said: “The first half was pretty even and they had a few set-plays that caused us problems.

“In the second half we started to look dangerous in the game and looked like the team that was going to go on and win it.

“Unfortunately we’re just not able to put the ball in the back of the net at the moment.

“Glenn had a fantastic strike at the end and on another day it would have ended up in the top corner.

“He gave us a spark when he came on.

“It’s a game we go away from feeling positive about.

“We made a lot of changes and we were better than last Sunday.”

Zander Clark showed why he’s been called up for Scotland with a terrific stop to deny Richard Tait at the back post.

Davidson said: “I was annoyed about the freekick we gave away. But it was a top save by Zander.”

Hibs have been sniffing around Jamie McCart but Davidson has played down their interest and instead hopes to add one or two new faces before the window closes.

He said: “The bid wasn’t anywhere near what we wanted so we move on. We’re going to try and get one or two in. You never know what might happen but hopefully we can keep this squad intact.”
