Simon says it’s victories over goals

-

SIMON MURRAY has insisted it is about glory rather than goals after he put Queen’s Park top.

The veteran forward netted a first-half free-kick to bag his fifth of the season. Queen’s Park are the only undefeated team in the table with Murray insisting it is all down to the work ethic.

“That is five for the season now but I don’t base my game only on goals,” he said. “I am happy if the team wins and I don’t care who puts the ball in the back of the net. I just like the feeling of winning football games.

“People put expectations on you and that is just football. But we have a good bunch of lads who are all ambitious.

“We might not have an experienced squad who know what this league is all about because we have just come up but we’re giving it our best shot and we have to be satisfied that we have done not too bad so far.

“So far it has been a great start and it gave us a chance to respond from last week when we lost a late goal to Alloa which deflated us a wee bit. But we have picked ourselves back up and are delighted with the three points.”

Falkirk had ample chances – including a penalty Calumn Morrison cannoned off the bar – but while Queen’s rode their luck at stages, Murray felt they were worth the points.

“They had a lot of halfchances but you know that is what you will get when you come here,” he said.

“Falkirk are a good team and will fancy themselves to be up and challenge for promotion so it is a big result for us and we worked our socks off to get it.

“We will just stay on an even keel now and look to keep picking points up.”

Clyde boss Danny Lennon has called on his side to build some momentum after beating Cove Rangers 2-1.

David Goodwillie’s brace gave the Bully Wee a lead and they held on despite Rory McAllister’s late penalty and going down to 10 men when Matthew Elsdon was dismissed.

Lennon said: “We have got to be at it repeatedly. That is the challenge and the gauntlet I have put down to the players.”

Elesewhere, East Fife romped to their first win of the season with a 3-0 win at home to Peterhead and Dumbarton sealed a 2-1 success at Montrose.
