ANDY CAN END THE REIGN OF KING

- JOIN THE

CLUB NOW Robertson can rack up more than 100 caps

JOHN CARVER has tipped Andy Robertson to join Kenny Dalglish in Scotland’s 100-cap club. King Kenny is the only player to have made it to three figures for appearances in the national team. Skipper Robertson is already halfway there after winning his 50th cap against Moldova on Saturday.

At 27, the Liverpool defender has plenty of time

on his side and Carver reckons he can surpass fellow Anfield idol Dalglish’s record of 102.

Steve Clarke’s right-hand man said: “I don’t see why he can’t.

“He’s a proper leader, he wants to be here and he drives everybody, not just on the pitch, not just on the training ground but around the place.

“It’s important you have

people like that. If you don’t, things can crumble when it gets a little bit tough.

“Robbo steps up 24-7. He wants to be out there every game, every training session – he sets the standard.

“And his experience is huge, especially on big occasions like Tuesday when we need him on the pitch.”

Scotland face their third game in seven days when they take on Austria in Vienna tomorrow night.

The workload seemed to have taken its toll on Robertson when he trudged off deep into the second half against Moldova.

That would have been a concern for Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp after Robertson missed the first three weeks of the season with ankle ligament damage.

But Carver says Clarke has cleared a plan of action for him with the Anfield gaffer and expects him to lead out the team in Vienna.

He said: “Steve had a chat with Jurgen with regards where he is in his fitness level and also had communication with Robbo. That’s important – the player knows best. We would have liked to get him off the pitch a little bit earlier but there wasn’t a huge issue with him.

“He just had a slight bit of tightness and fingers crossed everything’s OK with him.”
