GIRLS Aloud stars Kimberley Walsh and Cheryl Tweedy have paid touching tributes to their bandmate Sarah Harding.

Sarah’s mum Marie revealed on Sunday how her daughter “slipped away peacefully” aged 39 following a year-long breast cancer battle.

Kimberley, also 39, said “my heart is broken”, adding: “Beautiful Sarah this hurts so bad. To wake up and know you are really gone is too much to bear.

“Hearing your infectious chuckle was one of my favourite things. Your fire burned so bright

“You loved, lived and laughed so hard.

“Sending love and strength to everyone who is grieving today.”

Cheryl, 38, wrote: “Although we knew this day would arrive I am still feeling at a loss for words that our stunning, unique, crazy, quirky, kind and soft-hearted girl has departed.

“As I try to navigate my way through these painfully strange and horribly unfamiliar waves of disbelief and finality, I wanted to extend my condolences to all of our GA fans.

“I wanted to make sure you knew how much your love and continued support meant to Sarah through her most vulnerable times.

“She was so grateful, you really lifted her spirits when she needed you most.”

On Sunday, Girls Aloud’s Nadine Coyle, 36, said she was “devastated”, while bandmate Nicola Roberts, 35, added: “It’s painful and utterly cruel.”

The group formed on Popstars: The Rivals in 2002.

Show judge Pete Waterman said: “Sarah had enthusiasm, she was the girl next door – the public loved her.”
