Lewis hopes for another shot with his country

- BY SCOTT BURNS

LEWIS MORGAN is hoping being fully vaccinated can give his Scotland career a shot in the arm.

The Inter Miami star, who helped his side to victory over Cincinnati at the weekend, was a regular under Alex McLeish and Steve Clarke before the Covid-19 pandemic hit.

Morgan was called up to early squads but he and Johnny Russell, who is at Sporting Kansas City, were left out because of the quarantine and travelling issues travelling Stateside to Europe.

The pair would have had to self-isolate on their return to America and it would have meant them missing big chunks of their own domestic campaigns.

But Morgan is now fully vaccinated and knows that will help him going forward.

So he is looking to catch Clarke’s eye ahead of next month’s qualifiers against Israel and the Faroes.

The attacker, who has two caps, said: “I was in pretty much all of the squads last year but couldn’t go because of Covid and then the boys who got called up came in and did well. I would like to think I can play myself back into the squad.

“Johnny Russell and myself were called up for one of the Israeli games but we were unable to travel.

“I’m now fully vaccinated so that isn’t an issue going forward. The club was good at getting that addressed.

“It was great to see the national team boys do so well over the last year or so.

“It was unfortunate that I wasn’t part of it but I just need to keep pushing and hoping I get the call up.

“Playing for your country is the biggest honour a player can have.”
