BOSS FODA: I’M SUREWE’LLWIN

-

team and you guys saw that in the Euros. Our answers were very clear.

“Everyone knows what mistakes they made and what they did wrong.

“We have experienced players. We sat down and spoke to those players, a calm conversation, not emotional, and the details we covered were clear.

“I don’t read newspapers but there are other coaches and I have kids so you kind of get everything.

“We’d a long journey back on Sunday. We did a little training and then had a little talk about the details we didn’t do well.

“We’ve already talked about the Scotland game as we don’t have that much time. So we’ve talked about their strengths and weaknesses and have told the team what this game is about.

“It’s like a final for us and we have to win it. But we’re definitely capable of doing that.”

Foda reckons he has Scotland’s number as he’s ready for a route one bombardment.

He said: “Scotland play a similar system to Israel – three at the back, five in midfield and two attackers.

“But it’s a little different as they are stronger and they play many long balls.

“They play a lot with their wingers and they are dangerous in those situations. They are a very strong team so it’s going to be important that we win our tackles.”

Real Madrid ace David Alaba has backed his boss and hit back at claims the Austrian squad have lost their bottle.

Alaba said: “If we didn’t have a good relationship with our coach we wouldn’t have played how we played at the Euros.

“The relationship is good, the mood is good, everyone is happy. We had one bad game. I don’t think it’s a mindset thing.

“If you look at our mindset against Israel, it was right. No one can tell us that the mindset we’ve had has been wrong.

“There are mistakes made in football but these are mistakes we can’t make. We aren’t used to making mistakes like that. It surprised us all.

“In terms of the game tomorrow, I don’t really worry about stuff like that.”

Alaba insists the Israel defeat is just a bump on the road to Qatar.

He added: “It’s not going to be an easy game for us.

“But we know our potential and our qualities. It’s like a final – it’s a game we have to win.”

Austria have been hit by injuries but Foda revealed star man Marko Arnautovic will be fit to face the Scots after he suffered a knock at the weekend.

He said: “Of course Marko is an important part of the team and we’ll have to have a look at that. But he’s definitely going to start.”
