Law lord orders probe into the hospital death of little Fearne
Mum tells how she is coping with grief
A BABY’S death is to be examined by a sheriff after Scotland’s top law lord ruled it should be investigated.
Fearne Adger passed away in hospital aged just eight months.
She had been treated at the Royal Alexandra Hospital (RAH) in Paisley, where she died unexpectedly.
It has now emerged that Lord Advocate Dorothy Bain has ruled that a fatal accident inquiry should examine Fearne’s death. The probe is expected to be held later this year at Paisley Sheriff Court.
It is thought that Fearne’s family and medical staff from the RAH will give evidence.
Her devastated family later took part in fundraising events to donate money to the Scottish Cot Death Trust.
A message by Fearne’s mother, Lauren, on JustGiving thanked well-wishers and told of her struggles with her grief.
She wrote: “Fearne was such an amazing little girl who captivated everybody she met with her incredible charm and adorable face.
“We are so thankful for the lovely, precious time we spent with her.”
Fearne’s family raised £3800 for Scottish Cot Death Trust by climbing Ben Nevis in 2019
Lauren added: “I struggle every day with the loss of Fearne but I’d like to thank The Scottish Cot Death Trust for the help they’ve given me, it’s what has kept me going at times.”
A Crown Office notice said: “The death of Fearne Adger occurred in Scotland in circumstances which give rise to serious public concern and the Lord Advocate has decided that it is in the public interest for an inquiry to be held into the circumstances of the death.”
A spokesman for NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde said: “We continue to offer our condolences to the family for their loss. We are working with the inquiry team and will provide any, and all, assistance that we can.”
