We love to binge on TV boxsets

- Helen Lederer

ON Saturday mornings I read the papers, although I find my concentration isn’t very good lately, so I don’t tend to finish them.

I hunt voraciously for a great review of a Scandi noir thriller, which is what I prefer watching. And I have a notebook to write down things of interest.

Sometimes I’ll talk to my daughter Hannah, who lives in Ibiza, and she’ll suggest interesting things to watch. I love thrillers and documentaries such as Storyville and have become a boxset binger, especially during lockdown. I love watching an episode then saying, “Oh go on, let’s do another”.

After working out what I’m going to watch that evening, I might spend a couple of hours mending clothes. I’ve got my mother’s sewing box and it’s quite nice to use pin cushions and thread from her treasure trove of things. It’s like my memory box.

She had a sewing machine and made dresses, which left me with a passion for haberdashery. I like to go to a shop up the road from me, owned by Timothy Spall’s daughter, to buy lace and ribbons.

There was a time when I’d have started making a big supper party for friends but now I’m not very “cooky” so for supper, Chris and I might buy something pre-done from Cook.

On Sundays, we might go to Clapham and visit Chris’s son and two teenage grandchildren. Later, we’ll relax at home and I’ll read.

We once made our own rosé wine and we might have a glass on a Sunday. There’s something very nice about relaxing in your own garden.
