Gauld pal Euan bids to Spark City revival

-

EUAN SPARK says pal Ryan Gauld isn’t safe from a few home truths – and he and his Elgin team-mates aren’t shying away either.

The City skipper has watched his mate from their Dundee United days rip up Major League Soccer with Vancouver Whitecaps while he’s been left idle for the last fortnight.

Last week’s Challenge Cup call-off means Elgin haven’t played since their 2-0 defeat by Edinburgh City at the end of last month.

Spark, also still close with Hearts comeback man John Souttar, said: “I managed to get a hold of Ryan on Wednesday, it is the first time I’ve spoken to him since (he got there).

“He’s flying. He was saying when you wake up, you look at Twitter, ‘Gauldfather’ they call him.

“He gets a good bit of stick from us but fair play to him. Same with big John, who scores his goal and is nonstop on Twitter – you just need to bring him down.”

Ahead of the Kelty clash, Spark added: “There have been a few games where we have started slow, so the boys were frustrated.

“We spoke about it after the Edinburgh game. We’ll all stick together and get through the other side of it.”

Kelty yesterday had a clean sweep of awards as boss Kevin Thomson took League Two manager of the month while Joe Cardle collected the player gong.

The winger, having switched from full-time to part-time while running his own academy, said: “I’m thriving on being able to pass on my knowledge to the youngsters in the team and hopefully that develops them as players and helps the team as well.”
