Don’t know if mum had me top of the Kyle

Player of the Month prize a surprise to Kev after family flagged it up

- INVERNESS v PARTICK TH ALAN ROBERTSON AND ALASDAIR FRASER

KEVIN HOLT admits player of the month plaudits at Partick Thistle were so unexpected, he only got a clue when his mother flagged up he’d been nominated.

But the centre-back admits he isn’t even sure whether mum Mag voted for him, such is Thistle’s form on their Championship comeback.

The 28-year-old, who only signed in the summer, collected the club’s player of the month gong for August – as voted for by fans – ahead of team-mates Kyle Turner, Stuart Bannigan and Brian Graham.

Holt will now look to add to the achievement by sending Jags top today in their battle with an Inverness side boasting a perfect record four games in.

Asked if he expected the award, he said: “No, the boys have all done well since we came in and I was actually shocked. It was my mum, she saw my name was even up for the four candidates for it.

“She sent me a photo, just a screenshot off Facebook or something. I said, ‘Hope she’s voted for me right enough’ but I think she thought Kyle was going to win it.

“I don’t know if she voted for me, she had her head set on Kyle winning it. I don’t know if she thought Kyle played better than me!

“I am delighted to be nominated and to win player of the month, I couldn’t have had a better start.

“I feel like I have done really well, the club has done really well and I have certainly settled in really quickly.”

Scott Allardice insists immaculate Inverness Caley are yet to catch fire in the Championship.

The midfielder has played in every minute of every league victory so far, with four wins from four and no goals shipped.

Squad spirits have soared on the back of those 1-0 wins but Allardice feels the high-flying Highlanders still haven’t hit their best.

With today’s home test pitting Billy Dodds’ men against a Thistle side harbouring high ambitions after last season’s League One title and promotion success, Allardice is confident a top-quality performance will reap full points.

He said: “It’s obviously a big game, even this early in the season. Partick are doing well in the league but so are we. With the way we’ve been playing, we can take a lot of positivity and look to kick on with another good three points.

“It has been brilliant being part of a side winning every week. We’ve had four in the league and another victory and a clean sheet in the cup against Buckie Thistle.

“It is early days but we’re in a good place and, as a team, I like to think we can have a positive season because we have good players in this squad.

“It will be a good test but I think we’re ready for it. We know they’re a good side with players who have played at a higher level than the Championship. It all adds up to a tough game but we have a right good squad here.”
