Victim was given a blood transfusion at council tip after hit on Daniel family
A MACHETE gang who attacked a member of the Daniel crime family at a council tip had the help of a lookout, it has been claimed.
They sent in a gang member to pose as a visitor and locate Robert Daniel, who works at the facility, minutes before attackers launched a horrific blade assault on the 41-year-old.
It is understood a man was seen rooting around the boot of a car before making a phone call.
Seconds later three men in a vehicle arrived at Dawsholm recycling centre in Glasgow’s Maryhill and attacked him.
Insiders say he suffered a head injury in last Saturday’s attack so bad his skull was visible. He also had wounds to his back and legs.
A source said: “A guy was rummaging about his car, looking like he was sorting things out.
“He was there for a while then made a phone call. That’s when the guys came round and attacked Daniel. They knew exactly where he was. He was a sitting duck and had no chance.”
Daniel, of Glasgow’s Robroyston, is understood to have received a blood transfusion before being taken to hospital. He is still recovering from surgery.
A Ford Kuga was found burned out on a cycle track three miles away in Yoker minutes after the attack.
The insider said: “He had been touch and go. Some people thought he was going to die.”
Daniel is a nephew of kingpin Jamie Daniel, who died from cancer in 2016.
Police Scotland is treating the attack as an attempted murder.
Sources say Daniel – one of three members of the crime clan named Robert – likes to keep a low profile.
However, the group has been ripped apart by infighting. Last month John McGregor was shot dead after a bust-up between men associated with the family.
The Daniel and Lyons family have been at war for more than 20 years.
Police yesterday launched a fresh appeal for information.
They said two men wearing dark clothing, baseball caps and hi-viz vests got out of the Kuga and attacked Daniel and the driver remained inside.
Detectives are continuing to examine CCTV.
They have urged the public to contact the Major Investigation Team via a website. Its Major Incident Public Portal (MIPP) includes a form.
Detective Chief Inspector Alan McAlpine said: “We continue to speak to family, friends and known associates of the victim for any information which could help us identify the attackers.
“We have received very little information from the public regarding this incident and I hope the introduction of the public portal will encourage people to provide information.
“The victim remains in hospital and although he is in a stable condition, he has suffered significant injuries and it’s imperative we trace whoever is responsible.”
