Dustin’s aiming to be the golden oldie

-

OLD-TIMER Dustin Johnson reckons a lack of mental scarring will help America’s young guns cut down Europe.

Captain Steve Stricker has plunged his faith in freshness for Whistling Straits.

Veterans such as Tiger Woods, Jim Furyk and Phil Mickelson have been replaced by a new breed who have not suffered through Europe’s recent outstanding run of success.

Johnson feels that’ll help the home side this week and said: “The teams I’ve been on in the past, I feel like we’ve had tons of experience and it hasn’t worked out so well.

“This is a different generation of golfers coming up and we’ve got some really talented players.

“Young guys who don’t have all the memories of losing all these Ryder Cups. Maybe this is the recipe.”

Johnson is the most senior figure on the American team at 37 but isn’t being bogged down by father-figure status.

He added: “My

GETTING FRESH role is to win as many matches as I can. Obviously being the oldest by a few years, it’s a little strange for me.

“I always felt like I was one of the younger guys on the team and I still feel that way but I guess I’m the veteran on the team really.

“It’s a role that I enjoy. But with the guys on the team all being very good players, I don’t really have to do much.

“It’s definitely a little different with us all being fairly young.

“We’re young but we also still have a lot of experience, so the whole dynamic has been great.

“We all get along really well for the most part and, during a team event, we all get along. We’ve had a great time so far.”
