I’m doing a Good job for us and Irish
JIM GOODWIN joked he’s working for club and country after seeing Connor Ronan turn in a matchwinning performance.
The Wolves loanee struck twice as St Mirren turned round a 2-1 half time deficit to put 10-man Aberdeen to the sword and claim their first win of the Premiership campaign.
Ronan was outstanding next to Ireland international Jamie McGrath.
And Buddies boss Goodwin reckons more performances like that from the 23-year-old will make it difficult for Republic gaffer Stephen Kenny to ignore the 14-times capped Under-21 star.
Goodwin said: “He was outstanding. I tried for three windows to get him and I’m just delighted that Wolves have been so very cooperative.
“I couldn’t be any more satisfied with how he’s settled in and he’s only going to get better as he’s nowhere near the level of fitness that we need. That will probably be his first 90 minutes for seven or eight months.
“I’m delighted to be doing my bit for the international team back home as well.
“Jamie McGrath’s already had a call-up and if Connor keeps on putting in displays like that Stephen Kenny will have a decision to make about him as well.”
Ronan opened the scoring with a deflected effort in the 14th minute before Aberdeen stormed back to lead through goals from Scott Brown and Christian Ramirez.
But Teddy Jenks’ 51st minute red card turned the game and Ronan hammered home a brilliant equaliser before Marcus Fraser netted a winner on the hour mark.
Doubt surrounded the clincher with former Pittodrie frontman Curtis Main claiming he got the final touch.
Goodwin added: “Curtis is claiming it. Marcus will want it too but I’d like to give it Curtis if I can as I want my strikers to be getting on the scoresheet and get their confidence up and we have to try to kick on and build some momentum.”
