Genius coach pushed me up for a leveller

-

PADDY BOYLE reckons Dumbarton assistant Frank McKeown will consider himself a genius after the defender’s equaliser.

The veteran’s header netted his first goal for the club in 12 years after pushing up to meet Callum Wilson’s corner and earn his side a point in the 1-1 draw with Alloa.

Boyle said: “It was certainly an important goal. Frank told me to get in the box and take a bit more of a risk.

“That’s what I did and I managed to get my head on it. I’m usually keeping back in situations like that but the last couple of games I’ve been more on the edge of the box.

“With 10 to go I was told to push on by Frank and it’s worked out. He’ll take it as a stroke of genius.

“I’m good in the air, but I’m usually not so good at directing them.”

The game’s main talking point afterwards was Alloa boss Barry Ferguson’s confronting fans over negative comments about his team. But that takes away from a decent contest with a point apiece the fairest outcome.

Gregor Buchanan’s header landed nicely for Steven Boyd, who needed no invitation to smash it low into the home net to put the Wasps ahead.

Edin Lynch and Conner Duthie tested Alloa keeper David Hutton, while sub Ross MacLean also shot over with two efforts.

But the corner from Wilson found Boyle in the right place at the right time, guiding it into the net and Stevie Farrell’s men had the equaliser.

Queen’s Park moved two points clear at the top after battling back to beat Peterhead 3-2.

Tommy Robson put the Spiders ahead but Hamish Ritchie and Derek Lyle had the Blue Toon in front. Luca Connell equalised before Jack Thomson won it for Queen’s.

Falkirk left it late to come from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 at Montrose. Graham Webster missed a penlty then netted twice for the home side.

Aidan Keena pulled one back before Michael Ruth levelled in added time.

Ross Cunningham scored twice as Clyde beat bottom side East Fife thanks to a second-half double from Ross Cunningham.

Cove Rangers edged out Airdrie, Morgyn Neil hitting a last-minute winner.
