Joe shows Staggies way to go

-

MALKY MACKAY isn’t panicked by Ross County’s winless record seven games in.

And the promise of more to come from Joseph Hungbo, a star substitute at Fir Park, must be one of the reasons for Mackay’s confidence.

Hungbo replaced injured scorer Regan Charles-Cook at the interval. He produced a dazzling display on the right flank, clipping the crossbar with one chance, creating several others and giving full-back Nathan McGinley an unsettling second half.

The on-loan Watford attacker, 21, is only three brief sub appearances into a season-long stint in Dingwall. He’s surely put himself in the frame for a start in the next few weeks.

Hungbo said: “It’s been really different for me, something I’m not used to but that’s the challenge I want.

“You want to spread your wings far and wide and experience different cultures of football.

“I feel I’ve settled as well as I possibly can. I just need to make sure while I’m here I help the team, get the boys winning and make the most of my time.

“I hope as the weeks go on I improve and make an impact on the pitch for Ross County.

“It’s a physically demanding game up here. Everyone is aggressive, everyone is on it. You’ve got to make sure you are 10 times on it.

“You’ve got to beat the person in front of you and be ready to battle every time you step on the pitch. We did that against Motherwell and I made sure, when I came on, that I did what was needed.

“I thought I could’ve changed the game and I felt for long times we controlled and dominated the game, having the most chances and that we should’ve had a penalty.

“But the harsh reality was fine margins made the difference between a win and a loss.”

County are kept off the foot of the table by a superior goals scored record than Dundee.

Hungbo added: “If we keep performing how we have been, we’ll get results.”
