A SOLDIER on a date with his new girlfriend was kidnapped and tortured by the girl’s brother after he barged into her bedroom.
Dylan Rigby abducted and tried to murder Cobhan McLelland, attacking him with scissors and a knife.
He then poured boiling water on him and threatened to cut out his tongue, rape and kill him.
The High Court in Edinburgh heard that during the attack, Rigby was joking and laughing at his injured victim’s suffering.
The two-hour long ordeal finally ended after armed police forced entry to a flat in Edinburgh.
Rigby, 20, admitted abducting and attempting to murder his victim in March this year at a flat at Kidlaw Close in the city’s Liberton.
He detained teenager Cobhan against his will, grabbed him by the body and threw him to the ground and repeatedly stamped on and kicked his head.
He repeatedly hit him on the head with a bottle, a chair, pots and pans and ornaments, and struck him on the head and body with scissors and a knife.
Rigby poured boiling water over the victim and poured vodka on to his injuries, and put scissors in his mouth before threatening to cut his tongue during the assault, to the severe injury, permanent disfigurement and danger of his life.
Prosecutor Stephanie Ross said that during the attack, Rigby made comments that he was going to kill Cobhan and that he could rape him if he wanted to.
Rigby’s sister Rebecca lived in the flat where the assault took place and at the time she had recently started seeing Cobhan, who was a serving soldier based at Dreghorn barracks.
Ms Ross said: “He was unknown to her brother until this incident.”
The prosecutor said Rebecca briefly attended a party before returning to the flat and Cobhan arrived there in the early hours of the morning after drinking with friends.
