COPS & FOBBER Clever owner locks thief in car with remote key until the police arrive

-

A QUICK-THINKING car owner used her key fob to lock an alleged thief in her motor.

Rebecca Cheuk was left “shaken” after she realised a “random guy” was sitting in her plush motor. A man has since been arrested and charged in connection with the incident. The 21-year-old was alerted by her barking dogs and a “male voice” at about 9pm on Wednesday. Without hesitating, Rebecca, from Buckhaven in Fife, called police and then locked him inside her Mercedes A45 using the button on her car key.

Each time the man tried to get out of the driver’s seat, Rebecca locked him in again.

In a public Facebook post, student Rebecca wrote: “I heard a strange male voice outside my house and a car door shutting.

“Next thing you know, my dogs went mental, barking constantly.

“I look out and down my drive to find a random guy in my car.

“I went to phone 999 straight away for thepolice and kept on locking him in my car whenever he tried to get out, about 100 times.”

Footage from Rebecca’s video shows the man furiously trying to get out of the vehicle.

But before he knew it, the car alarm was set off and he could be seen under the glaring interior lights.

A number of police officers arrived on the scene, who pulled the man from the motor and cuffed him, before he was led away.

Yesterday morning, police

confirmed the incident, stating that a 49-year-old man had been arrested and charged in connection with the theft bid. He is expected to appear at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court at a later date.

A Police Scotland spokesman told the Record: “We can confirm that a 49-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with an attempted car theft, which took place in the West High Street area of Buckhaven at around 9pm on Wednesday, September 29.

“He is expected to appear at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court at a later date.”
