I’M BRACED FOR RAIDERS

- SCOTT BURNS

STEPHEN GLASS is braced for big-money bids for talented teen Calvin Ramsay in January. Half of the Premier League is scouting the right-back, who has been one of Aberdeen’s top stars having started 12 of 14 games this season. Tottenham, Southampton, Everton, Leicester, Manchester United and Leeds are just some keeping a close eye on the Pittodrie graduate three years on from Aston Villa taking Hibs’ John McGinn in a £2.8million deal. And Dons boss Glass is ready to field offers for the 18-year-old in the upcoming transfer window. He said: “Would I expect offers in January? I wouldn’t be surprised. “He’s in a similar position to a lot of young players in Scotland in that they’re attractive to clubs down south. They see it as an affordable option up here – they get great value when they come to this league. “The players they play with, the players they play against and the experiences they get, clubs think this is a very good learning environment. “Players who have gone south in recent years have done well, so that increased the likelihood of the clubs coming back again. “I don’t get involved in valuations and all that stuff. But John McGinn went down for a decent amount and has done brilliantly. There is a good recent history of Scottish young players going down and doing well.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if clubs try to get Calvin sooner rather than later.

“But it needs to be right for him and right for us as a club.”

Glass knows Ramsay will take the speculation in his stride and wasn’t surprised to see him linked with Manchester United ahead of this Sunday’s home clash with Celtic.

He said: “What Calvin will realise is it’s normal for this to come up before we play one half of the Old Firm.

“I don’t know if it’s tactical but it tends to appear the week we play Celtic or Rangers. It has gone on since I played here – it’s nothing new.”

Team captain Scott Brown will face the Hoops for the first time since his summer departure.

And Glass knows the 36-year-old will be 100 per cent focused on ending a run of eight winless games.

The Reds manager said: “He’ll have a lot of scrutiny this week, I am sure.

“Scott has been a player who has come out on the winning side of this fixture on numerous occasions.

“We are hoping that happens at the weekend in a red jersey.

“His experience will be vital. Since he has come in he has been the same, so he won’t do anything different.

“However, it’ll maybe show people the determination when they see how Scott is trying to win this game.”
