Sam shock but keeper reckons Sons can shade it

-

SAM RAMSBOTTOM’S partner’s shades may be in pieces after a wayward clearance under The Rock but he’s chuffed his career looks more solid than ever.

The Dumbarton keeper’s partner Cara unfortunately connected with Gregor Buchanan’s boot away into the stand.

“What a header, right back on to the park there,” went match commentary in last week’s 1-1 draw with Alloa as the Sons made it four games unbeaten.

Buchanan now finds himself on the hook for a £5 club fine but it’s Peterhead Stevie Farrell’s side will look to punish to sit top of the table with Queen’s Park not in action until tomorrow.

Ramsbottom said: “I didn’t know this while I was playing, thankfully because I would’ve been worried about her.

“But Buchy smashed the ball, it hit her on top of the head and smashed her sunglasses. If you watch the video she has managed to head it further up the line, so she was wanting to be in team of the week for winning a powerful header.

“I’ve not spoken to the gaffer yet about bringing her in as cover at centre-half, we’re not sure yet!

“She has a cracking lump on the top of her head. Buchy was really apologetic, he was looking for her after the game but she was already in the car.

“I put a photo of her broken glasses into the WhatsApp group and said, ‘Buchy owes a £5 fine’.

“They were £30 sunnies but we’ll make do with a fiver in the Christmas kitty!”

Ramsbottom, who saw offers in Spain and Germany fall through at the start of the pandemic, was without a club last season until ex-Sons boss Jim Duffy took a “gamble” on him back in March.

Farrell made it clear he wanted the Englishman back north for his reign, handing him a one-year deal in June.

He said: “Other than being at Tranmere when I was younger, it will be the longest I have spent at a club in senior football.

“My enjoyment for it got taken away for a while up until I signed and now I’ve fallen back in love with playing.”

The Blue Toon are looking for their first win in three and keeper Brett Long said: “Obviously we want to win every game but this game especially.

“We want to go into the international break finishing on a high. It is a long wait for the next game.”
