TANGERINES TAKE IT TO THE MAX WITH ME

- BY SCOTT BURNS

NEW striker Max Biamou has checked into Dundee United with the goal of firing them into the top three and to European football.

The out-of-contract Frenchman has penned an initial deal at Tannadice until the end of the season.

The former Coventry City frontman admitted he was sold on United’s ambitions as they look to push on again under Tam Courts, to finish the best of the rest behind Rangers and Celtic.

They are also looking for United to qualify for European football for the first time in a decade.

Biamou said: “We have a good team to challenge for the top three and that is part of the goal for this season and maybe to play in Europe next season.

“I want the same as the club and the other players, to try and win as many games as we can and be as high as possible in the league.”

The 30-year-old has been a free agent since he left the Sky Blues in the summer. He had options but admitted former Coventry team-mate Marc McNulty helped talk him into moving north to join him again at Tannadice.

Biamou explained: “This summer I had some offers from clubs but I decided to come here.

“Firstly, I had a chat with McNulty and he told me he would be happy if I was to come to the club.

“I have seen some clips of the team and they are playing some very good football. That was important to me and why I decided to come here.”

United’s latest addition will have to bide his time to play with McNulty as the former Scotland striker faces several months on the sidelines with a hamstring issue. Biamou hopes to fill that gap and help others around him.

He admitted: “We all know how good McNulty is and it will be hard for the team with him being out.

“That is how I am here as well to help the team to win games and to score some goals.

“If I can help players like Nicky Clark to score goals and become a better player then I will be happy to. I just want to win every game I play.”

The Frenchman is looking forward to a new challenge after his journey up from the National League with Sutton United and then to Coventry where they went from League Two to the Championship.

“I am used to playing in England,” Biamou explained. “I wanted to go abroad again because I have played in England from the National League to the Championship.

“I wanted to try something different but at the same time I think my heart is still in the UK. Scotland is probably the best because I am changing the country, the league, but I am still in the UK.”

Biamou may come into the equation to make his debut away to Hibs after the international break.
