Gangland murder accused flew to Oz days after car shooting

4 MEN STAND TRIAL FOR FATAL SHOOTING

- BY

A MAN standing trial for two alleged gangland murders travelled to Australia from Scotland just days after he shot a man dead, a court has heard.

John Kennedy, 41, allegedly shot Jamie Campbell, 47, three times as he sat in the driver’s seat of a car in Drumchapel, Glasgow, then flew Down Under for 10 months on a working visa after the shooting in March 2006.

Kennedy is also alleged to have shot Kenny Reilly, 28, in the city’s Maryhill in April 2018.

The evidence emerged on the first day of proceedings against Kennedy and Morton

Eadie, 55, Darren Eadie, 30, and Ross Fisher, also 30, who are also accused of murdering Reilly.

Prosecutors claim that in April 2018 at Bilsland Drive, at the junction of Maryhill Road, Glasgow, the four men shot Reilly in the head.

The Crown claims their alleged actions were also “aggravated by a connection with serious organised crime”.

A final charge states that on June 2019, at plot 28 at Garscube allotments in Maryhill, Glasgow, Kennedy breached firearms laws by illegally possessing ammunition. All four men have entered not guilty pleas to the charges. Kennedy’s lawyers have lodged a special defence stating that Kevin Carroll could have murdered Campbell. Carroll was shot dead in an Asda car park in 2010. They also say he was at home at the time Reilly was murdered.

Judge Lord Beckett warned jurors at the High Court in Edinburgh to consider a series of questions before taking their place on the jury.

He said: “Another name which may feature in the trial is Mark Richardson.

“It is very important that you are completely impartial.” The jury were also told the trial could last until mid December 2021.
